In September I’ll be at my 50th high school reunion in Seattle Washington – the following is from a classmate of mine…

But I never quite got the accelerator, the engine, the wheels, the road and myself in that special synchronicity. I always came back to earth. I never escaped. It was a long shot.

Thanks to Holly at Waggytailrescue, Ruffy and I have a new friend named Shadow. A 22-pound miniature Poodle mix. He’s supposedly 12 years old. However once he jumped off the transport truck from the Brooklyn CACC it was evident this was no senior citizen. We think he’s about 6 years old with no teeth. We had to take them all out. But his vitality is on GO! We’ve met a whole new world through Shadow: Holly from Waggytail, Marissa & Caitlin from Running Paws, Dr. Hoope at Symphony Vet, Jose Luis the best groomer ever, Mia from Second Chance Training, Charlotte from Sweden, Mina from Venice, Alison the artist from Astor Court, John from Pet Stop, Roy the photographer – wonderful people, wonderful Shadow, wonderful world!

Shadow is a spiritual dog. Shadow’s mantra is “Don’t leave home without me!” Separation Anxiety! We’ve been rehearsing exiting - opening and closing doors like a French Farce. I now can go to the bathroom in private and shut the door without a Greek Tragedy. Otherwise there’s clawing and pawing and barking when I close the front door. It’ll take time.

I asked the artist, Kathy Wyatt and my friends Bill Kosmas, Gretchen Burnett, Andrea End, Lois Meredith, Susan Biehn and David Seidler if we couldn't come up with a reminder of how precious life is in all its many forms. Well, Hey! - It's only a T-shirt but it's a gesture of hope.

To chemo or not to chemo? - a question Hamlet never had to ask.Cancer has changed me. It’s a job. It requires lots of time and attention and work with no salary. The oncologist serving tea said, “I know this sounds unbelievable, but someday you’ll find that having cancer is a blessing.” “Yeah? Easy for you to say!” I thought. But then again, maybe he had something there. I remembered a question from psychology class: How is a fly and a tree the same? The answer: “they’re both alive. Similarly, before cancer and after cancer - I’m the same: I’m alive. So that’s a pretty big blessing. So far so good………
